Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 is compact like the smaller 12.0 and 12.1 speakers but has an increased cabinet volume and driver size for higher potency. It grants more from a traditional bookshelf speaker and embodies the illustrious history of Wharfedale's Diamond series.
Ideal for larger rooms and more powerful stereo hi-fi systems, the 12.2 features a high-performance 6.5” Klarity driver for extended, tight bass and 1” woven polyester dome tweeter for smooth and open highs.
Lightweight Klarity Cone
The new lightweight Klarity cone material is created from a mix of Polypropylene and mica. It adds stiffness to increase rigidity for low colouration and fast response Equipped with a low-damping surround, the Klarity cone achieves low colouration and expressive dynamics. Through simulating various cone shapes and adding ribs for stiffening, a flat response curve was created without resorting to a high-damping surround.
Voice coil
The voice coil is wound on a high-power epoxy/glass fibre bobbing, instead of aluminium, granting better power handling and more stiffness than the Kapton type bobbing. An accurate magnet system with an aluminium compensation ring reduces the effect of inductance variations preventing distortion and intermodulation from the motor.
Diamond highs
The 25mm woven polyester film dome has a high-loss coating to deliver open and extended highs. The magnet system and front plate are optimised for wide dispersion and uncompressed behaviour. The front plate is flat and exposes the dome while only a short duct balances the acoustic load and improves the SPL.
Crossover of style
The crossover network uses an acoustic LKR 24dB topology and includes air-core inductors selected for the lowest inductor distortion properties. As the resistance of the coil is higher than a standard laminated steel or ferrite core, the magnetic structure is modified to compensate for fast, clean bass with no inductor distortion.

HiFi Choice Recommended
This all adds up to is a speaker with undoubted star quality. The Diamond range has always been about demonstrating ‘hi-fi ability' at a sensible price without losing the ability to work happily with less than pristine material... Lively yet forgiving performance with plenty of scale and depth... A tremendous combination of musicality and user friendliness that sounds consistently excellent!
AVForums - Best Buy Award.
Sit and listen to the Wharfedale [Diamond 12.2] for any length of time and you tend to stop listening to it and start listening to the music instead… This is the most fun and focussed Diamond yet; a speaker that needs little help to engage you in what it’s doing. It achieves this without compromising on the fundamental user friendliness of the Diamond models of old. When you also consider that is it a well made, handsome and practical design that is likely to shine in a wide selection of settings, the only logical conclusion is that the Diamond 12.2 has to be seen as a Best Buy.
Hi-Fi Trends
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 is a beautiful, well-constructed speaker that clearly demonstrates how far this market segment has come. It sets a new standard for build quality at this price range. Soundwise, it does things unimaginable at this price even a year ago. The soundstage and imaging are class-leading, plus the bass is fast, deep, and precise... richness in the upper bass and low mids, but I haven’t heard another speaker at this price range with such precise separation and placement.
The Audiophiliac Daily Show
[D12.2s] do feel an unusually well-built for speakers in this price class… It's a pretty neutral sounding speakers… have a fuller, sweeter presentation, exciting… This speaker's midrange is pretty special. It's very transparent! I think D12.2 did a phenomenal job for its score... It's midrange centric speakers, that's it really shines!
